I have two tiny silly questions for a poetry project I am working on.

Syllables! Is it Poet-lein or Po-et-lein? And is it gold-ne or gol-dne?

Thanks in advance :)

Long Hair for Martial Arts

  • Nov. 30th, 2009 at 8:48 AM
Do we have any long-haired judoka, aikidoka, or people who do other arts that emphasize grappling? How do you wear your hair for practice? I'm going to start training in aikijutsu at the beginning of the year, and need a style that keeps my hair out of the way, protected from damage, and that isn't going to hurt me too much if I happen to land on it in the course of a fall or a roll. I have classic-length hair, and my default style is a high-ish slipknot bun secured with a hairstick, but it fails on account of being rather uncomfortable to roll over.

encore ou toujours?

  • Nov. 30th, 2009 at 8:42 AM
I've got a question about French that hopefully someone knows the answer to.

I know that both "encore" and "toujours" can be used to mean "still." Is there any difference as to when they are used though?

And if I wanted to say, "She is still here," would I say "Elle est encore ici" or "Elle est toujours ici?"

Merci!

EDIT: Found answers here and here.

DEHüNGERIZE!

Why am I always hungry?! )
I interpret it as option one and don't anyone I know would differ, but because it's ambiguous I like to pretend it's option two. :D Interestingly enough I consider option two a very British expression and if the commercial featured the queen of England rather than just some black guy I think I would be much more inclined to interpret it as two.

Not a very novel topic but any thoughts?

I'd love to be able to only wash my hair about once a week, but I get really bad dandruff, and I don't know how else to get rid of it without washing.

Suggestions?

TIA

Celebration Cake

  • Nov. 30th, 2009 at 12:52 AM

I've posted 100 recipes over at my food blog Annainthekitchen! In celebration I made a chocolate cake. I expect a lot from a chocolate cake and I was pleasantly surprised by this one. Nice and rich but not too heavy, fudgey texture just on the verge of being brownie-like. There was going to be a layer of fondant icing but apparently icing and I don't get on. There were tears. Ah well, something to practice! For the full saga and the recipe go here.

Oatmeal Crème Brûlée Heaven

A fair while back, [info]kylakae posted a mouthwatering recipe for oatmeal crème brûlée, and I've had it in mind ever since.

Since I love both oatmeal (porridge where I'm from), and crème brûlée, making this at some point in my food-enjoying life was a given... )

WE ARE STILL ON THIS

  • Nov. 29th, 2009 at 5:20 PM
Stiiiiiilll worrrrrking on New Moooooon. To that end, does anyone have a still/screencap of that really ridiculous, blatant fanservice moment when Jacob takes off his shirt to, like, dab at Bella's head? I mean the exact moment when he takes it off, you know the shot. It's an illustrated Fifteen Minutes, and the more on-the-nose the picture is, the better the punchline will work, and I only have shots from later in the scene. I just really don't want to Google for it, you know? The internets scare me.

(I'm wrestling with the last few problem scenes and trying to go back and polish the finished ones while I rack my brain for something interesting. It's running long--well, by "long" I mean "the standard 5000 words that most of the older ones are," but Twilight has kind of taken the place of the Harry Potter fandom in terms of OMG YOU LEFT OUT MY FAVORITE PARRRRRRT complaints. Within the stuff I felt compelled to include, I'm trying to tighten as much as possible. Also, the coding on this one has been a bitch because I tried to get fancy with a text effect. Fnarr.)

I have heard people rave about how fantastic their prawn noodle is. Prawn Noodle has got to be one of my comfort food. It just brings back memories of sitting at my granny's place...slurping up a nice big bowl of noodles with all the yummy prawny broth...YUMMS!

The broth was very thick and dark. Obviously they have not stinged on making the broth flavourful.

The first spoonful of the prawn soup and I was smiling. It was full of "prawny" goodness. Def a flavourful stock.

The noodles was springy and cooked just al dente which is exactly how I like it. In essence I think I had three prawns, and they were all halved. I do wish they bothered to devine the prawns though, so I spent a bit of time picking at it.
